BAREBACK RIDER JESS POPE MAKES IT TWO ROUND WINS IN A ROW
Jess Pope has found a liking for rodeo’s biggest stage. The Waverly, Kan., cowboy keeps on winning as he claimed his second round victory in a row with his 89.5-point ride on Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s Fired Up at the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge. Pope was thrilled with his ride before 16,860 fans at the Thomas & Mack Center Friday night. “This feels awesome,” Pope said. “The NFR is starting the way I want it to. I had only seen that horse (Fired Up) once. I saw Caleb Bennett get on that horse in Walla Walla (Wash.) and I thought boy that horse bucks. I was happy to get on him.” For 16 seconds of work in Round 1 and Round 2, Pope has earned $53,994. That cash grab has moved Pope up to second in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $174,018.”That’s awesome. This is how I put food on the table. This is what I live for right here. I will go buy some cows when I get home. This is just a matter of doing my job. I know if I show up here and do my job every day and continue to try and win and perfect everything I do, then the cards are going to lay where they lay. God has a plan and I’m just living it.”

BULL RIDER J.B. MAUNEY CLEARED TO RIDE FOR ROUND 3
Veteran star bull rider J.B. Mauney had a scary wreck in Round 2 when he was hung up and bucked off Rafter G Rodeo’s Johnny Thunder.
Mauney sustained multiple facial lacerations that required stitches. He was treated by the Justin Sportsmedicine team onsite at the Thomas & Mack Center. Mauney was evaluated Saturday morning by Justin Sportsmedicine personnel and passed concussion protocol.
“They always told me every day all the way through school to use your head and I used it,” said Mauney, 34.
Mauney, who is making his Wrangler NFR debut, is scheduled to ride Four Star Rodeo’s Shark Bait in Round 3.
Mauney split the Round 1 win with an 87.5-point ride on Painted Pony Championship Rodeo’s Cocktail Diarrhea.
Mauney is fifth in the world standings with $146,466.

TIE-DOWN SHANE HANCHEY CAPTURES EMOTIONAL ROUND 1 WIN
Less than two weeks before the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge, tie-down roper Shane Hanchey was dealt some adversity. The primary horse Hanchey was aboard all season – TJ – passed away. The horse was owned by Logan Bird. Hanchey said the loss wouldn’t set him back at the Wrangler NFR and it didn’t – at least for Round 1. The Sulphur, La., native clocked a 7.4-second run to win the round before 16,804 fans at the Thomas & Mack Center. “That run was so much more than a round win, with me losing TJ, 10 days ago and he was what I was planning on riding at the Finals, so I really wasn’t sure what I was going to do,” Hanchey said. Hanchey, the 2013 world champion, leads the world standings with $212,076. He earned $26,997 for the victory. However, Hanchey had his doubts about getting on Peso. “I said Logan, he’s never been there, and Logan said, ‘you have to trust me’,” Hanchey said. “I put my trust in him and the man upstairs and it paid off.”

EARNINGS STARTED EARLY FOR WRANGLER NFR CONTESTANTS
At the 63rd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge, each of the 119 qualifiers received a $10,000 stipend for qualifying for the NFR. Stetson Wright received an additional $10,000 for qualifying in two events – saddle bronc riding and bull riding. The stipend for each NFR contestant counts in the PRCA | RAM World Standings. After Round 1 Thursday, the only leader to change spots in the world standings was in saddle bronc riding. Ryder Wright, the reigning world champ, scooted past his brother Stetson Wright by $119. Ryder took the lead by placing fourth in Round 1 with an 87-point ride on Hi Lo Pro Rodeo’s Palindrome and earning $11,321.

NEWS & NOTES

Six-time NFR Qualifier Tanner Aus looks to earn some money after drawing Calgary Stampede’s Zig Zag Cherry. The horse enters the NFR with an average score of 84.75 points including a 90.5-point ride from Orin Larsen in Round 10 of the Calgary Stampede, July 18….In the saddle bronc riding, Stetson Wright matches up with J Bar J’s In The Lu. It’s bucked off 43% of would-be riders this season. Casper posted an 87-point ride on the horse in 2020 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo…..In the bull riding, Sage Kimzey will look to accomplish a feat that’s never been done in the PRCA. He matches up with Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Arctic Assassin, a bull that’s never been ridden in ProRodeo during its 18 outs. It’ll be the first meeting between the two. Trey Benton III draws another tough task in Harper & Morgan Rodeo’s Pickup Man in Round 2. Only two cowboys in the last three years have covered the eight seconds aboard Pickup Man. PRCA, Teton Ridge announce pivotal partnership with Teton Ridge becoming presenting sponsor of National Finals Rodeo

October 28, 2021 by Jeffrey James

COURTESY OF ProRodeo.com

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 28, 2021) –The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association®, and Teton Ridge today announced a multi-year deal for Teton Ridge to become the presenting sponsor of the NFR Las Vegas.

Teton Ridge is a brand dedicated to promoting and preserving iconic western culture.

Since 1985, Las Vegas has played host to the NFR, except for 2020 when the NFR was moved to Arlington, Texas, because of COVID-19 restrictions in place in Las Vegas.

The NFR is a culmination of more than 600 PRCA-sanctioned events within the regular season. Las Vegas Events, the special events coordinator for the rodeo, projects 17,000 people in attendance at every performance at the Thomas & Mack Center, or 170,000 total. The total estimated economic impact of the NFR was more than $175 million in 2019 according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“This is great to partner with Teton Ridge as the presenting sponsor of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said. “It’s extremely pleasing when you can partner with an organization whose beliefs align with ours. We look forward to this being a great relationship moving forward.”

Emphasizing the same commitment to excellence that is exhibited in all Teton Ridge’s integrations, the dedicated western-preservation brand will place a special focus on elevating the PRCA World Champion crowning ceremony.

“A PRCA world title received at the NFR is one of the most treasured achievements in rodeo,” Teton Ridge CEO Jonathan Katz said. “Celebrating champions and the hard work that goes into rising to the top levels of each rodeo discipline is at the core of Teton Ridge. Aligning with PRCA and LVE as part of this iconic year-end event, we want to join them in honoring western sports and the tremendous professionals competing for world titles in a very prestigious way.”

The partnership comes on the heels of Teton Ridge’s recent move to bring The American under the brand’s umbrella and elevate the richest single-day rodeo in the world to new levels in March 2022 in Arlington, Texas, including an unmatched total purse of more than $3 million, non-stop rodeo action, live music, entertainment and more. The industry-leading event is the centerpiece of the brand’s western sports portfolio.

Adding the NFR partnership was a natural next step for Teton Ridge and further illustrates the significance placed on celebrating excellence at the top levels of the rodeo world.

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) are proud to announce the Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping will take place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas December 6-7, 2021.

The Top 15 breakaway ropers will compete for prize money of $200,000 during the two-day, 10-round performance that will be produced by the PRCA in conjunction with Group W Productions.

“The continued success and growth of breakaway roping since the National Finals Breakaway Roping in Arlington, Texas, last year has made it clear that the NFBR should come to Vegas with the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo,” PRCA CEO Tom Glause said.

In addition to the prize money, a Montana Silversmiths world champion buckle and custom Cactus Saddlery world champion saddle will be awarded, along with Montana Silversmiths go-round buckles after every round.

“The growth over the last two years for ladies breakaway roping at PRCA rodeos has been phenomenal and the popularity of the event continues to grow exponentially,” said Jimmie Munroe, WPRA President. “We are excited to join with the PRCA in bringing this caliber of roping to Las Vegas for the first time with the second annual Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping at the Orleans. The ladies of the WPRA have worked hard this year and traveled many miles to make their dreams come true in Las Vegas as they compete for a world title alongside the National Finals Rodeo.”

The performances will be at 1 p.m. (PST) each day, with five rounds Dec. 6 and five rounds Dec. 7. Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. (PT). Ticket information may be found at orleansarena.com/events. For more information, go to Prorodeo.com or WPRA.com.

“I am very excited and honored that our venue at the Orleans Hotel & Casino, home of the ALL IN Breakaway, will be hosting the National Finals Breakaway Roping and look forward to the opportunity to give these top 15 Breakaway Champions the visibility and platform they deserve,” said event producer Chris Woodruff of Group W Productions.

The 2020 National Finals Breakaway Roping took place at Globe Life Field in Arlington in conjunction with the NFR.

Last year, Jackie Crawford captured the inaugural National Finals Breakaway Roping world championship. It was Crawford’s 20th WPRA world championship and third in breakaway roping.

The PRCA and WPRA have worked together for several years to promote breakaway roping and grow the sport. Crowning the 2021 world champion at the Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping in Las Vegas during the Wrangler NFR is another step to establishing break away roping as a fan favorite in professional rodeo. Both performances of the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Breakaway Roping will be streamed live for free on the Wrangler Network.
