CRESS EYES FIRST WORLD TITLE IN SADDLE BRONC RIDING
Saddle bronc rider Brody Cress keeps pushing his foot on the gas to give himself a chance to win his first gold buckle. The Wyoming cowboy won Round 9 with a 91-point ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Kangaroo Lou before 17,210 fans at the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. Cress is third in the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $256,511 and leads the average with 772 points on nine head.

FEILD LEADS RAM TOP GUN HEADED INTO ROUND 10
Bareback rider Kaycee Feild leads the PRCA | RAM Top Gun Standings after nine rounds in Las Vegas. He has earned $154,056 so far this Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Steer wrestler Tyler Waguespack is sitting second with $141,066. The Top Gun honor is awarded to the cowboy or cowgirl that wins the most money in a single event during the NFR. Feild won the Top Gun Award in 2011 and Waguespack in 2016.

BULLFIGHTER DUSTY TUCKNESS INJURED
PRCA award-winning bullfighter Dusty Tuckness suffered a fractured left leg in Round 9 according to the Justin Sportsmedicine report. Tuckness rushed in to save bull rider Braden Richardson following his 89-point ride on Sankey Pro Rodeo & Phenom Genetics’ Bouchon and moments later he suffered the injury.

NEWS & NOTES
In bareback riding, Jess Pope has a chance to secure his first PRCA World Title Saturday night, matching up with the runner up of Pendleton Whisky’s Bareback Horse of the Year, Frontier Rodeo’s Gun Fire. Pope battles five-time world champion Kaycee Feild for a top spot in the average with only two points separating the cowboys. His matchup, Gun Fire, put together an impressive 2021 season, posting an average score of 89.6 points on six qualified rides. The two will pair up for the second time this year with Pope riding the horse to an 89.5-point ride earlier this year on July 24 in Spanish Fork, Utah. R.C. Landingham hopes to finish his 2021 Wrangler NFR out strong, drawing the Pendleton Whisky’s Bareback Horse of the Year, Calgary Stampede’s Xplosive Skies. Cole Franks matched up with the award-winning horse in Round 5, scoring 90 points and a second-place finish. Landingham has made a strong showing at NFR, placing in six of the nine rounds…In saddle bronc riding, Chase Brooks has drawn the Pendleton Whisky Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year in Korkow Rodeo’s Onion Ring. Wyatt Casper rode the horse to a sixth-place finish in Round 5 with an 88.5-point ride. There have been three 90-point rides on the horse this season. Stetson Wright matches up with Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Vitalix Ricky Bobby. The horse has an average score of 88.5 points this season. Average leader Brody Cress has drawn Brookman Rodeo’s Flirtatious…In the bull riding, coming off last night’s round win Braden Richardson, has drawn Powder River Rodeo’s Chisled. The bull led Stetson Wright to the pay window with a round record breaking 94.5-point ride in Round 5 of this year’s Wrangler NFR. Six-time PRCA World Champion Sage Kimzey will go head-to-head with Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Greeley Hat Works Centerfold. The bull bucked off Roscoe Jarboe earlier this NFR. Trevor Kastner is the only cowboy to have a qualified ride on him this season. He went for 91.5 points at the Tri-State Rodeo on Sept. 8. Parker Breding leads the average and has drawn Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s War Cry on Saturday night.
