This Year’s World Series Tickets Set New Price Records

This year’s World Series matchup between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers is shaping up to be the most expensive in history.

According to reseller TickPick, the average ticket price on the secondary market is around $1,703, surpassing the previous record of $1,691 set in 2016. This figure is more than double last year’s average ticket price of $776 for the Series, where the Texas Rangers claimed their first championship.

The highly anticipated Series kicks off this week, starting with the first of at least four games in Los Angeles on Friday. Currently, the cheapest ticket available on TickPick is priced at $975. Notably, game three—taking place in New York—boasts astonishing prices: a standing room-only ticket is $1,476, while a physical seat costs $1,790.

Several factors are contributing to these soaring ticket prices. Both teams represent two of the largest cities in the U.S. and feature some of baseball’s biggest stars, including Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the Yankees. This also marks the first World Series meeting between the Yankees and Dodgers in over 40 years, dating back to their 1981 face-off.

The Yankees hold the record for the most World Series titles with 27 championships, while the Dodgers have won the title seven times, including their recent victory four years ago.

Given the magnitude of the matchup, ratings for the Fox broadcast network are expected to soar. Both teams hail from major television markets, and their playoff runs have attracted significant viewership. Fox Sports announced that ratings for its cable networks, FS1 and Fox Deportes, along with its streaming platforms, reached their highest levels since 2019, averaging 5.6 million viewers across six games during the NL Championship Series.

Similarly, TBS reported that ratings for the AL Championship Series, featuring the Yankees and the Cleveland Guardians, also reached multi-year highs. These games were broadcast on truTV and streamed on Max, further demonstrating the immense interest in this year’s World Series.
